Welcome to the RIMS Brewing page from McKenzie Brewing.  Main goal is to document my RIMS Brewing setup.  Each person that uses RIMS, usually builds their own.  I am no different.

A RIMS (Recirculating Infusion Mash System) is basically a system used by home brewers to perform their mashing, either partially automated or fully automated.  Most systems consist of some method of heating the mash other than applying direct heat to the bottom of the mash tun.  Some use a heat exchanger, others use a tube or pipe with a heater element inside it and still others do use direct heat applied to the mash tun.

Nearly all systems use some kind of pump to circulate the wort being produced in the mash tun (thereby the Recirculating part of the RIMS name!).

This web site is designed to help the home brewer, at any level, understand the RIMS method of brewing.  It helps to have all the relevant facts (? huh) together when undertaking construction of a RIMS brewery.  I started brewing with extract malts.  I had brewed many gallons of fine beer, wheat beer, ales and had progressed to lagers.  However, I found that I could not get the type of extracts needed for fine pale ales and delicate lagers.  So, all grain brewing was the only option.  Being a gadget head, RIMS was for me.  The pictures I saw of these systems and the clear wort and high gravity yields produced was what turned me towards this system of brewing.  So browse around, learn what I know, email me and teach me what you know!
