Updated July 1st, 2007!  V3 of software!

As a programmer, I figured I would go the software controlled route.  I had Visual Basic on my machine and I had never done anything with it.  This was an opportunity of sorts.  The software is "pretty" basic.  There is the basics for controlling temperature and time of the mash cycle:

  • monitors Hot Liquor Tank water temp
  • controls Hot Liquor Tank water heater element
  • controls Hot Liquor Tank stirrer
  • sets strike temperature in Mash Tun using RIMS heater
  • monitors mash temperature via a probe placed into the mash tun directly in contact with the mash grains
  • controls RIMS water heater element with an algorithm that reduces heater "on" time the closer the temperature approaches required temperature, equivalent to a hysteresis setup, just not as fancy
  • allows for single step infusion mash or multi step infusion mash
  • allows for optional saving of sample file, dumps critical temperatures, heater status etc.  File can be imported into Excel for producing Mash Graphs
  • new feature to include a graph using RMChart to display several temperatures on a neat bar graph
  • ability to load/save mash profiles so that you can save off your favorite settings

The following screen display is available :
